Depending on what time you're looking at or what region of the world the story is set in, there's a prettyhuge difference in how folks and our equine friends are treated. There are tales of the raiders from the dark ages where a growling guy on a horse was for sure a barbarian that was going to bring about some truly savage moments. Pretty hard to live down the image of a bloodthirsty killer on horseback!
